Mother to the sweetest 6 year old; who is having to grow up too fast because his mommy has to work really hard and so he has spends alot of time in daycare/afterschool care instead of just playing like I wish he could.

I am on Dave Ramsey's Baby Step 3. Step 1 & 2 are done but see my goal list page to see what I am doing to juggle all my goals in addition to the baby steps.

Is it dumpster diving if it is on top?

Yesterday I got a NEW pair of work boots. Yes they are brand new!! We have about six members of the full time crew relocating for a year. The two that have offices across the main hall from mine were cleaning out their offices and tossing stuff in a big waste can. Today the offices even got more cleared out as the furniture was removed from the rooms so that the carpets could be shampooed before the furniture got put back in.

Anyway yesterday I am walking down the main hall and what is on top of the big garbage can, a NEW pair of work boots. I took them, no point in a NEW $50 pair of boots going to the dump. They are half a size bigger than I wear, so I will be replacing the insole with a thicker insole and that should make them fit. If after replacing the insoles they still feel to big, I will be taking them to my favorite resale shop for $$$$$. I will be lucky if I get $5 or $7 for the boots but hay they were FREE and I kept them out of the landfill.

Might be able to sell those boots on ebay for several dollars more if they don't work out for you. I hope they do work.

when i was younger i bought a pair of shoes that i really liked that were too big, i shoved a piece of fabric in the toes and it worked fine

I think this is great and I also think that listing them on eBay (if they won't fit) could lead to a good sum. I bought a nearly new pair of shoes (I knew they were a very hip brand) that didn't fit me at the second hand store, and sold them on eBay for over $60! And that wasn't including the shipping and insurance to send them to California, it was all profit. Good luck, and nice find!
